Sumela & Karaca & Hamsikoy Tour
Overview
After welcoming you at your departure points, we will proceed towards Karaca Cave, following the Trabzon – Gümüşhane state highway and the Zigana Pass, accompanied by our on-board commentary. It is scientifically said that the air in Karaca Cave, known to be beneficial for asthma patients, improves their condition. After a 45-minute tour of the cave, we will take a break for tasting and shopping local delicacies such as Pestil (fruit leather) and Köme (a traditional Turkish sweet).
We will then head to the Torul Castle, located on a summit near the Torul Cam Viewing Terrace, a defensive and surveillance structure built during the medieval times and incorporated into the Ottoman lands during the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. The Glass Terrace stands at a height of 240 meters, making it one of the highest in Turkey, and with its location just 2 kilometers from the main road, it is one of the most accessible glass terraces in the country.
After our visit to the Glass Terrace, we will take a break for lunch at a restaurant on Zigana Mountain. Following our meal, we will continue to Hamsiköy, located at the foot of Zigana Mountain, known as the birthplace of Sütlaç (Turkish rice pudding). Here, you will have the opportunity to taste the authentic Sütlaç.
Next, we will arrive at the historical, religious, and natural beauty of the Sumela Monastery in the Maçka district. We will reach the parking area and take a shuttle to the beginning of the hiking path leading up to the monastery. After a 10-minute walk, we will arrive at the monastery. After visiting Sumela Monastery, we will return to the shuttle stop, take the shuttle back to the parking lot, and meet with our vehicle.
Finally, we will conclude our tour and head back to Trabzon. We look forward to seeing you on our next tour.
